Het Klein Handelsgebouw,
Today, the main factor in the design of office buildings is sustainability - issues of heating, cooling and flexibility. The path of least resistance in resolving these issues often leads to bland, unimaginative spaces. The heavy climate control performed by machines often turns an office building more into a kind of whirring, zooming factory rather than anything else. What if we could design a building where by the very layout of the spaces, the energy required for heating and cooling could be reduced to an absolute minimum? What if this new layout actually provides exceptional spaces? In collaboration with Beyond Space we dubbed this approach 'Radical Simplicity': a low-tech, high-quality response to the questions of the office of tomorrow.
