De Omval

Amsterdam, NL | 2021 | 4.500m2

De Omval is a sculptural, all-sided building with a varied range of flexible spaces that are adaptable in time. DC combines an adaptable shell in a striking building, which has emerged from specific incisions in the shape of the plot. The result is a faceted floor plan that responds to its surroundings in an urban manner and, through its sculptural form, gives the relatively large volume a more appropriate scale. In its design DC refers to the industrial architecture that characterises many creative places, where the structure plays an important part in the character of a building

To maintain the feeling of the fringe area, the building has an industrial look that is also carried through in the construction methodology: the structure of reclaimed steel is kept visible and emphasized by the color and installations remain in plain sight.
