De Wandelaar

Ede, NL | 2021 - 2025 | 4.000m2

The project is located on the former military base 'Prins Mauritskazerne' on the edge of the Veluwe nature reserve. It consists of the construction of a new apartment building with fourteen units next to the former 'Keukengebouw' an existing military canteen that we will transform to short-stay, hotel, offices and a restaurant. The new building is built into the existing height differences and is on two sides surrounded by monumental trees.

Each apartment has a glazed living room on the corner, giving each a beautiful view on the surroundings while the more private spaces as bedrooms and bathrooms are placed in the more closed vertical brick volumes.

To blend the building better into the surroundings and give it a more modest appearance, the top floor has a large setback which provides the two penthouses with large roof terraces on the sunny west side.

The glazed living rooms almost makes you feel to be living among the trees. Reference to the Glass House by Lina Bo Bardi.
